Stirling Active Travel Hub partnered with Recyke-a-bike over the school holidays to offer cycling activities to the Stirling Council Childcare Hubs, who were providing childcare for children of key workers.
We delivered 3 sessions to the Balfron Childcare Hub, based at Balfron high School, and 1 session at the Mayfield Centre in St Ninians. The sessions were great fun to deliver as the groups were small and we could do cycling games and skill sessions. The sessions were very rewarding for the trainers and we had the joy of watching very young children increase their ability, confidence and skill in a fun, safe environment. We even had the pleasure of seeing several budding cyclists take their first unassisted independent pedal strokes.
“We would just like to thank Neil & Mhairi for coming along to the Mayfield Hub yesterday, the children had a really good time and a few were over the moon they learned to ride a bike for the first time!” - Mayfield Hub
“Many thanks to you and your team for providing such a valuable experience for the children. It was fantastic to have such expertise to support the children in their different stages. We will all hold fond memories of the childcare hub and the cycling is definitely one of the highlights.” - Balfron Hub
We also had the opportunity to assist Stirling Council Education’s Creative Learning Officer in developing an online environmental challenge for their website. Our challenge encouraged young people to write an itinerary for a virtual bike around their home town/village which went live on their website in June. As part of Stirling Council Youth teams online Health and Wellbeing week we supplied a range of cycling links and advice promoting the benefits of cycling.
