We have a selection of ebikes, cargo bikes and bags which we loan out for people to try.
Electric bikes (ebikes) are bicycles fitted with an electric motor that provides an 'assist' to the bike's rider.
Electric bicycles offer the same great benefits as traditional bicycles including cost savings, improved health and connection with community. Riding ebikes is easier than riding a normal bike. It's more convenient and less effort. But this is the best thing about it — it makes cycling more accessible. Some people simply don't find the thought of slogging to get up hills appealing. They want the fun of being out on a bike without it feeling like an endurance challenge. They're also great for keeping cyclists active while they have injuries, or helping people keep cycling as they get older. And electric bikes are great for commuters, because they can arrive at work and meetings in good time and cycle in work clothes without being hot and sweaty. What about those who say it doesn't count as exercise? No need to worry about that, to ride an ebike you still have to pedal, which still takes effort. You pedal and the bike just boosts your power.
We have a range of ebikes that range in both size and type of bike. Find out more about the range of bikes we have and how to try one out.
Free ebike loans are restarting in March 2022 for periods of up to 3 weeks. Please message ryan@forthenvironmentlink.org for more information or to book one of the ebikes.
Did you know you can borrow bike bags (panniers) to try out? We have a range of sizes from small ones right up to a pair of larger panniers. There’s also a wee bike trailer for those times only an extra set of wheels will do! Pop in to the Hub or contact us to ask about trying out the panniers or trailer.
We have a range of cargo bikes which can be tried out, including an electric cargo bike. Our cargo bikes can be used for transporting shopping, heavier items and we even have one for travelling with children.
