The Cycle Friendly School Award scheme is administered by Cycling Scotland. It is one of several national Cycle Friendly Schemes that Cycling Scotland offer. Interested schools register for the scheme and then work towards the award with the help of a specifically designed action plan detailing what support is offered both nationally and locally. This allows to schools to access support to progress through the scheme. The award is incentivised by funding packages available to schools from Cycling Scotland and other active travel delivery partners. Cycle Friendly awards are offered to both primary and secondary schools.
Forth Environment Link are assessors for the Cycle Friendly Schools programme. Working with registered schools we can assist and support their journey towards accreditation. Once assessed, schools are issued with an action plan detailing what changes and developments are needed for accreditation. Many incentives needed for the award are offered by Forth Environment Link. We have experience in developing our own active travel initiatives and can help schools with their journey. We can offer expert support in providing cycle training for staff and pupils or signpost schools to the relevant agencies offering training. The full support that can be given is detailed here.
We have worked with five Stirling Council schools in the past 6 months to assess them for the award and develop an action plan to gain accreditation.
